Planned Autism Centers

The Center for families with Autism is a secure but home-like setting that provides opportunities for children with autism to interact with other children and receive individualized help and counseling.  The Centers offer a variety of play activities and other socially integrated experiences.

Centers provide:

  • A dedicated to establishing community based Childcare Centers for Autism for the intervention, treatment and training of children with Autism and their families.

  • Centrally located enabling easy access to a structured, yet non-threatening home-like environment.

  • Community based Childcare Settings for intervention, education and training of children with Autism and their families.

  • Networking with existing community resources provides a complete continuum of cost effective behavioral health services for the Autistic person and family.
Determining the size of the facility:

Many factors go into the establishment of the size and function of a center.   Centers may be centrally located in a metropolitan area and be larger.  Or in the case of rural settings, more facilities of a smaller size.

At a minimum, the following items would be included in the calculations for a center.
  • Geographic area and the demographics developed with the autistic child in mind would be generated for every center.

  • Determine reasonable travel distances and/or times for the area covered by a center.  This along with the demographics yields an Area of Coverage (AOC).

  • If public transportation is not available for an AOC, this would influence the serviceable area.  Autistic children and their guardians should not be excluded based on the lack of transportation to the center or by excessive travel times.

  • Types of activities projected for the center.

  • General training room requirements.

  • Number of training rooms based on requirements.

  • Training frequency.

  • Play therapy rooms.

  • Population density along with demographics.
General Usage Rooms Requirements:

  • Bathroom requirements, storage closets, book cases, janitor closet/s, facilitator workrooms, kitchen/dining area, reception area, room for peer to peer relations, waiting room, private rooms for interviews and other considerations.
